Ross Dress For Less
In 1995, Champion acquired a 20,000 square foot parcel at the corner of Lake Avenue and San Pasqual Street in the South Lake Avenue District of Pasadena. The City of Pasadena operated a public parking facility behind the parcel. After studying the City’s general plan, Champion identified that the City desired a department store to anchor the east side of the District, but the parcel was too small to accommodate a department store.
Champion negotiated with the City to approve the development of a two-story Ross Dress for Less with all parking provided in the adjacent parking facility operated by the City. Champion was also successful in convincing Ross to operate a two-story store, only the second such store in Southern California at the time.
